Mileage tracker

A mileage log that keeps itself.

Every shift's business miles, worked out from the actual route. They go on the invoice when the pharmacy pays for them, and into your tax estimate at HMRC's rate when they don't. No more rebuilding a log in January.

Logged for you

Every mile, without lifting a finger.

Add the shift as usual. Locumoid already knows where you live and where you're going, and works out the rest.

  • From the real route. Miles from your home to the pharmacy and back, by road, not as the crow flies.
  • Split days, done right. Going straight from a morning shift to an afternoon one? The miles run from the first to the second, not from home twice.
  • On the invoice, at your rate. When the pharmacy pays mileage, it's added to the invoice at the rate you agreed for that shift.
  • In your tax, at HMRC's rate. Travel the pharmacy didn't pay for is deducted at 55p a mile for the first 10,000 miles, then 25p, by tax year.

Questions, answered.

Which journeys can a locum claim?

As a self-employed locum, you can generally claim travel from home to the pharmacies you cover, as each is a temporary workplace. If you work at the same place week in, week out, it can start to look like a commute, which isn't allowable, so check with an accountant. Our mileage guide explains the rules.

What is the HMRC mileage rate for 2026/27?

55p a mile for the first 10,000 business miles in a car or van in the tax year, and 25p a mile after that. Earlier tax years used 45p. Locumoid uses the right rate for each tax year in your tax estimate.

Does it track me with GPS?

No. Locumoid works the miles out from the route between your home and the shift's address, or from your previous shift on a split day, so there's nothing running on your phone and no location history kept.

What if the pharmacy pays my mileage?

Set the rate you agreed on the shift, and the mileage goes on its invoice at that rate. Only travel the pharmacy didn't pay for counts towards your tax deduction at HMRC's rate, so nothing is claimed twice.

What if I don't drive?

Mileage is optional. Add train fares, taxis, parking or a hotel as expenses on the shift instead, and they're included in your invoice and your tax estimate.

Never rebuild a mileage log again.

Locumoid works out the miles for every shift, puts them on your invoices, and keeps your tax figures up to date as you go.
