It depends on your profit, not your earnings, so there's no single answer. Locumoid works out your Income Tax and Class 4 National Insurance from your shifts, expenses and mileage, and shows it as a percentage of each payment to put aside. Many locums find it's between 15% and 25%.
No. The estimate uses current UK Income Tax bands and National Insurance rates for self-employed locums, so you know roughly what to set aside. It can't see your other income or personal circumstances, so check your Self Assessment with HMRC or an accountant.
No. It doesn't send anything to HMRC. It lays out the totals the way the Self Assessment form asks for them, ready for you or your accountant to copy. If Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to you, your MTD-compatible software does the sending, with Locumoid's figures to hand.
Yes. If your bill is over £1,000, HMRC usually asks for half of next year's in advance, in January and July, on top of this year's. Locumoid shows them in your projection, so the first January as a locum isn't a shock. Our guide to payments on account explains how they work.
Treat it as a rougher guide. The estimate uses the Income Tax bands for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and Scotland's bands differ. National Insurance is the same everywhere.
