Sound familiar?

Locuming comes with a second, unpaid job.

The dispensing is the easy part. It's everything around it that eats your evenings and days off.

Bookings in six different places

Agency emails, Locate a Locum, a text from a store manager, a paper diary. One slip and you've double-booked a Saturday.

Is that rate any good?

Most rate talk is about pharmacists. Knowing what other technicians are paid nearby is guesswork.

Invoices nobody pays on time

Independents that take 60 days, and invoices you forgot to send in the first place. Chasing them is awkward, so it doesn't happen.

Revalidation creeping up

Four CPD records, a peer discussion and a reflective account, due with your renewal, and all your problem when you're self-employed.

Miles you never claim

That drive to cover a branch adds up over a year. Without a log, it's money left with the taxman.

The January tax surprise

No idea how much to put aside until your Self Assessment says otherwise.

GPhC registration

Your registration and revalidation, kept for you.

Pharmacy technicians revalidate just as pharmacists do. Locumoid keeps your records as you go, so renewal isn't a scramble.

  • The technicians' register. Your GPhC registration number, renewal on your own anniversary and the fee, with a countdown on your schedule.
  • Revalidation as you go. Tick off your four CPD records (at least two planned), your peer discussion and reflective account as you write them.
  • Indemnity and DBS. Your insurance and your DBS, PVG or AccessNI certificate together, including whether you're on the Update Service.
  • Where to go next. Career tracks written for pharmacy technicians, with the qualifications and steps for each, and your earnings year on year.

Shifts, invoices and tax

From booking to paid, without the paperwork.

Everything a locum pharmacist gets from Locumoid, with rates, wording and career content for technicians.

  • Every pharmacy, built in. Search every GPhC-registered pharmacy by name or postcode, with opening hours filled in. Missing one? Add it yourself.
  • Invoices that send themselves. Every finished shift becomes an invoice, emailed to the pharmacy overnight or held for a one-tap OK. See invoicing.
  • Mileage logged for you. Worked out from the actual route, at the rate you agreed. See the mileage tracker.
  • Tax estimated as you go. Income Tax and National Insurance for the tax year, updated with every shift. See the tax estimate.
  • Lives in your calendar too. Your shifts and time off in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook, and your other calendars on your schedule.
  • Every pharmacy, remembered. Your own notes on the side door and the fridge that beeps, plus parking details shared by other locums.

And the little things

Your car, covered

Tax, MOT, insurance and service dates on your schedule, and the cheapest fuel near home on your dashboard.

Questions, answered.

I work in Northern Ireland. Can I still sign up?

Yes. Pharmacy technicians in Northern Ireland aren't statutorily regulated yet, so you can sign up without a registration number and add one when the PSNI starts registering technicians. Everything else works as it does in Great Britain, with Northern Ireland's bank holidays and AccessNI checks.

Are the rate insights for technicians, or pharmacists?

Technicians. Rates are pooled separately for technicians and pharmacists, so what you see is what other locum pharmacy technicians are paid in your area, never pharmacists' rates mixed in.

What if a pharmacy I work at isn't listed?

Every GPhC-registered pharmacy is built in, searchable by name or postcode. If one's missing, add it yourself in a few taps, and it's there for next time.

Do I charge VAT?

Not usually. In Great Britain, registered pharmacy technicians are on HMRC's list of health professionals whose care is exempt from VAT, and Locumoid's invoices don't add it. Technicians in Northern Ireland aren't registered yet, so check with an accountant if your turnover is near the VAT threshold.

Is the tax estimate tax advice?

No. It uses current UK Income Tax bands and National Insurance rates for self-employed locums, so you know roughly what to set aside. It can't see your other income, such as an employed job alongside your locum work, so check your Self Assessment with HMRC or an accountant.

Does Locumoid find me shifts?

No. Locumoid isn't an agency and never takes a cut of your rate. It organises the shifts you book yourself, wherever they come from, and tells you whether the rate on offer is a good one.
